When Bobby Berk takes over a desert property, we want in. Palm Desert is a vacation destination lauded not only for its sunshine, pools, and golf, but for its impressive architectural history ranging from mid-century modern to Spanish style. As soon as we saw photos of what is now known as Casa Tierra, we couldn’t wait to see the home transform under Bobby’s master eye.
Casa Tierra is a 2.3-acre rental property boasting seven bedrooms, two casitas, and a picture-perfect pool. Based in Los Angeles, Bobby opted to partner with desert-based rental home expert Paula Oblen to tap into her keen design sensibility and have someone on the ground near the Palm Desert home.
The designers were aligned in their desire to respect the home’s rich history and character, embracing natural materials and sticking heavily to a palette of earthy neutrals. A standout color in the home, however, is ebony. Dramatically dark black pops in nearly every room and Zia tiles provide dreamy textures for this rich hue.
Visitors will encounter Carbon Black zellige on floors and across backsplashes – even working its way into a color-blocked shower, a delightfully overpowering deep Charcoal Echo hex cement-covered bathroom, and a black Little Nova cement bar nook. While dark and stark, these moments of black are balanced with plenty of natural sunlight, white walls, and natural wood.
